Welcome to the Preparing For Your Doctor Visit Forum

I am leaving tomorrow for Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. It’s my first visit and evaluation. I have been to TGH/USF Migraine Clinic and was extremely dissapointed, I am hoping that Mayo Clinic is able to help me. I was wondering if anyone else has ever been to Mayo for there migraines and what to expect. They said be prepared to stay 2-5 days… I am extremely anxious!

DANA, I went to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and I hope that you have a MUCH better experience than I did there. I am not trying to discourage you at all, I put ALL my hope into visiting Mayo. I went there (an eight hour drive) thinking I would come back cured. When I got there the neurologist I saw ran some tests, which all came back normal. When I saw him again for the final visit, he told me I had Chronic Daily Migraines (I had already been diagnosed with that two years prior) and that I needed to learn to live with it. I wasn’t even living, I had to withdrawl from college (I was 19) and couldn’t work my part time job. I was living in a dark room, or a hospital bed, or an ER. To be told I need to learn to live with this, when I wasn’t living… broke my heart and shattered ALL hopes for me. I again, am NOT trying to discourage you… I just returned home so hopeless and heartbroken that I made a really big mistake and tried to hurt myself, because ALL of my hope for a cure was put into visiting Mayo. I pray that you have better luck… I just saw you were wondering about SDavis’ visit.. and I went to the same Mayo as you will be going. I do not want to ruin your hopes, and I hope I check back on this forum after your visit and you received good news… I just had a terrible experience there. But I will keep you in my thoughts hoping you have a good experience and they help you. Best of luck! Once again, I am not trying to discourage you… I am just sharing my experience with them.

melissadwyer13,

Thank you for sharing your experience.

It’s hard – when we’ve had a bad experience – to tell others about it because we don’t want to discourage them, but patients talking to other patients is what online forums are all about.

If you had any advice to give to someone else so they won’t have the same results you did, what would it be? Is there anything you would have said or asked that you think in hindsight may have been beneficial if only you had thought about it at the time??
