Good afternoon! I am new to here and to “blogging”, so bear with me! But I’m soooo glad I found this site! I am a life long migraine “daily” suffer since I was 9 (daily since 16) and I am now 44. My migraines have just taken on a different/worse form! My name is Susan. Good to meet everyone!

Hi Saravanis – We’re so glad you’ve found us! Why don’t you add your Migraine story to the patient stories section of this site. Each story acts as an entry to win a free iPad :) http://bit.ly/gYkZXK

I have a question regarding the use of narcotics for paint treatment, and the statements made by the staff.

First, under the Narcotic Analgesics section, it is stated that, “These short-acting narcotics may cause physical dependence or psychological addiction.”

My first question, is how did you arrive at this conclusion. From everything I have read, discussed with my headache specialist, and know from my personal experience, I know that the incidence of people actually becoming addicted is very low. What studies have you used to base this assertion on, and could you please provide a source for this statement. As far as I can tell, the highest rate of addiction for pain patient ranges between 2-3%. This seems like a very low percentage of patients become addicted, so I am wondering how you came to this conclusion and what evidence you have to support this clam?

Further, it is also stated that, “Long-term use leads to tolerance, meaning more drugs are needed but don’t work as well.” Again, I am wondering what evidence you have to support this claim, as I have not seen any studies that make this conclusion based on the evidence. I am really interested in the evidence you have supporting these claims, as I have not been able to find any studies that would allow someone to make such a declarative statement.

Thank you for your time and for the information.
